Side note - coolest home office ever, yes? Or maybe I'm just a sucker for the pink and white...
As you may remember, my line manager at work left for pastures new in December, leaving only myself and a colleague to head up the organization's development department. After an exhaustive search for a new director of the team, the executives have finally appointed someone - and she seems great. We met briefly on Friday, at the breakfast event that I mentioned, and although she doesn't start for another few weeks I'm thrilled that she's so ready to roll up her sleeves and dive into things here at the organization.
The responsibility and autonomy I've taken on during this interim period have been truly incredible for my professional development. While I'm very much looking forward to having someone at the helm of my department, the past few months have been a revelatory experience. I've learned tons - about fundraising and event planning, of course, but also about management, teamwork, accountability, and trust. I owe my colleague in the department a huge thank-you for her support as well as the executives who committed us to a challenging target but never doubted that we'd achieve it.
We have another big event - the star-studded opening of the end of our season - on Monday and then I head to the States for a week and a bit on Tuesday. I'm absolutely ready for a vacation, but somehow am so engrossed in work that I haven't really processed that Monday will be my last day for a little while. And, somehow, I'm not quite ready to leave! That's a good sign, right?
